Deck or Patio? What’s best for you?

April 10th, 2017|Blog, Deck Design Tips & Trends|

One of the most often asked questions over the years has been: “What’s better, a deck or a patio?” The truth is, a lot of that is determined by the site and the elevation that the house is set at. After that’s first considered, for the homes that are relatively close to the ground, where both are viable options, my answer is simple. Better than a deck or a patio, is a deck AND a patio. You can have too much of anything. Just as you can have too much grass, rock, or concrete, you can also have too much wood, or too much stone. Ultimately for the greatest appeal, you’ll want balance. The wood and the stone are the perfect compliments to each other. Artfully Combining Decks & Patios is Best Patios are going to be at or near the ground, and decks are going to be in elevated [...]

Why Design Matters

April 3rd, 2017|Blog, Deck Design Tips & Trends|

It’s officially spring now, and the demand for custom decks and outdoor living additions has never been higher! The combination of the booming housing market and Colorado’s incredible climate is leading to tremendous interest in custom outdoor living spaces. I’m sure you understand the importance of Design. Design motivates just about every major purchasing decision anyone makes! However, it often seems that when we bring up the subject of design, it scares people. Design shouldn’t be a scary word though. For some reason, most people think design adds to the cost. Actually, an experienced deck designer will help save you money by optimizing material use and finding construction efficiencies. Design reflects your lifestyle and how you’ll use your deck. The better the design, the better the function. And the more use you’ll get out of your deck. A well-designed deck provides one of the best investment returns of any home [...]

What is the Best Material for a Deck?

May 13th, 2016|Deck Design Tips & Trends, Life On Deck|

From the beginning of time, wood has been used to build everything from boats to homes. History has shown that wood has the capability to stand the test of time, and a deck made from naturally stable and insect-resistant material, like redwood, cedar, and mahogany, does, too. Don’t be deceived - compared to plastic decking, wood wins out in every category. It not only withstands weather and ware, but it is also friendly to the environment and your budget. Building with redwood, our preferred decking material, fits right in with living green too! Redwood makes it easy to be green without sacrificing quality or elegance. Redwood is renewable and recyclable, and cleaner to produce than composites or plastics. Another fantastic material that is being used more and more on our projects is mahogany. Yes, it's a bit more expensive, but a well maintained mahogany stands the test of time and [...]

Is a Deck a Good Investment?

May 11th, 2016|Deck Design Tips & Trends, Life On Deck|

The best! In fact, for many years decks have been the highest returning home improvement investment you can make! Nothing increases marketability more than a unique quality outdoor living addition. Like a home itself, the true value of an outdoor living area cannot be measured simply in financial terms alone. Adding a custom deck, patio or roof addition to your home can increase its value. Especially in Colorado, value depends on location, views, space and more. As Colorado continues to gain popularity as a great place to live, homes with a quality outdoor space will have a selling advantage over a home with outdated or unfinished spaces, selling faster and at a higher price. Simply put, a deck is a great investment! Check out the annual Cost vs. Value Survey, which compares average costs for popular remodeling projects, and shows decks are the highest home improvement investment you can make. [...]

Dear DeckTec Friends, Anyone who has been around me long knows that Thanksgiving time is very special to me. It is the chance to look about and acknowledge the blessings of another good year, the wonderful team I work with and, of course, the terrific people who call themselves DeckTec customers. Blessings of the Year The summer of 2014 was tremendously successful. But we couldn’t have done it without you. Thanks! Here are some of the things that made last season so great: 68 new decks were designed and built for our community. That’s roughly 22372 square feet of decking, over 3000 planks of beautiful redwood, countless deck screws and nails of the highest quality carbon steel being put into those planks, and innumerable smiles of people throughout the metropolitan Denver area. Our maintenance crews cleaned, re-stained, re-painted and repaired 759 decks, ensuring that those decks will support happy families [...]
