Daylight Savings Ends this Weekend

As the northern hemisphere begins its annual tilt away from the sun, our shorter days are approaching.  This weekend marks the end of Daylight Savings Time and provides a great reminder of some of our 6-month cycles of home tasks.  Here are four top tasks from your friends at DeckTec:

  1. TURN BACK THE CLOCK – Before you head to bed this weekend, be sure to turn back your clock an hour, and enjoy a little extra sleep in the morning.  Did you know that in December, at the deepest part of winter, we will have approximately five and one half hours less of sunshine than the longest days in June?
  2. CHECK YOUR BATTERIES – Now is also a great time to check the batteries on your fire alarms and practice the family emergency preparedness plan.  Kids will have fun running out into the last piles of dry leaves in your yard, and you’ll feel better knowing your alarm system is in order.  Just be sure to check with your fire department for proper placement of new alarms to ensure the safety of your family.
  3. CHECK YOUR TIRE TREADS – With colder weather approaching, now is the time to have your tires checked.  Even all-weather tires can become brittle in colder temperatures, so you may want to take the car into the shop for a little winter weather preparation.
  4. PREP YOUR DECK – Maintenance of your wood deck is a smart way to maintain the value both of the deck itself and of your home.  Experts from DeckTec would be happy to help you check your deck for immediate maintenance needs, or let you know what you’ll want to address in the spring months.  Just give us a call at (303) 277.1550 and we’ll be happy to set up an appointment.

Whew! After all that work, you may want to sit back, heat a cup of hot apple cider with cinnamon and cloves, and enjoy a night under the stars around your fire pit or in your spa.  Winter may change the hours of daylight and activity, but this new season simply means Outdoor Living has a fantastic new look—the cool look of winter!
