Each year, the team at DeckTec is proud to help plan and build many beautiful decks in the Denver area. We know that we’re constructing more than just a platform out someone’s back door. We’re creating the opportunity to build family memories, and make great Outdoor Living moments a reality.

Some of our clients get so caught up in the construction process, though, that when the job is done, they’re not quite sure how to make the most of their new deck. So here are some wonderful ways you can more fully enjoy your new deck experience:

Enjoy the Sounds of Being Outside

In our rushed world of text messages and kid chauffeuring we can sometimes forget how nice it is to sit in our own back yard and enjoy the sounds of nature. The bees this time of year present a delightful hum, and children playing create a special music of their own. When you sit on your deck for even a few moments you can listen past the sounds of traffic and zero in on the call of birds, crickets, and even the quieter sounds of small wildlife in the evening moments. If you add a fountain or pond in your yard, there will be the relaxing sound of water gurgling to keep you happy.

A Deck Is the Best Place to Read

Leave the dishes for a while. Turn off the television and step out your back door. A deck, especially one with a roof cover, is an ideal spot for reading. Invest in a glider and soon you’ll build a bond with your children or grandchildren as you rock and read such classics as Go Dog, Go! By P.D. Eastman, or Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White.

And what about that wonderful couples’ relaxation time Sunday mornings with the newspaper and your favorite magazines? In the privacy of your own yard you can stay in your pajamas and while away your morning in comfort and style.

A Deck Helps Keep Your Parties Casual and Stress Free

When you’re tired of cleaning house, but want 50 of your closest friends over, what can you do? Host a barbecue! By throwing your parties outside on your deck, you have a lot more room to craft a natural, worry free venue. Wood decks can handle most spills with a spray from the hose the next day, so serve what you want, not what won’t stain the carpet.

Clip flowers from the garden and display them in mason jars around your deck and you’ll create great ambiance with half the trouble. And your grill will have a level spot close to your kitchen for most of the year. If you have a roof cover, that grill will be thrilling friends and family year round.

Your Deck Will Improve Your Health

When the parties are over, and life falls back into your usual routine, you’ll find that a deck is a wonderful place for yoga, meditation, and reflection on your life. By making this time for yourself, you’ll also be able to claim the health benefits of being outdoors. More studies are being done on the importance of getting outside; how it reduces stress and blood pressure, how by breathing deeply you improve your overall health, and how a little sunshine each day increases your ability to fight off depression.

Take your journal outdoors and your deck will provide a great spot to think through the puzzles and challenges of our hurried world. It’s like taking a small vacation, without the worry of vacation costs.

Making Time to Be On Deck

We have found that most of our clients love their decks, but it takes a little forethought if you’re new to having a deck environment. Perhaps you can gather your loved ones and spend 15 minutes this weekend planning your own use of your deck. Will you eat outside once or twice a week, or only when you have company? Will you sit at your dining table after dinner, or plan to have dessert on deck? The nicest thing about having a deck is that the more you use it, the more fun and value you’ll get out of it.

From your friends at DeckTec, make yours more than a deck this summer. Make it an experience.
