Now is the time!

Congratulations! You have decided that this is the year that your much neglected deck will be renovated or repaired! The next step is to find a reputable specialty contractor that can address how to best proceed. At DeckTec we take a very comprehensive approach to deck renovation, so much so that we have dedicated an entire division of our company to it. Where as many companies will try to talk you into replacing your deck, at DeckTec we understand the value and cost savings of resurrecting a deck that really just needs some TLC.

What’s Next?

When you call DeckTec or fill out our web form, we will gather some pertinent information on the project you are planning. This is to serve as a template for the Deck Specialist, which will contact you by email or phone. Some things that you should be prepared to correspond about will require some basic knowledge and terminology of the troubled areas of your deck. See the below diagram to familiarize yourself with the basic components of a deck. After receiving information on your project in greater detail, the deck specialist will determine if DeckTec is a good fit for your needs. Please review the rest of this attachment to fully understand how our process works. Thanks for Considering DeckTec!

Budgeting for a Repair

Much like a car, the cost of repairing your deck can vary greatly. As a company that prides itself on taking a comprehensive approach to all that we do, we are constantly striving to give you the best options possible for your situation. Simply put, we are going to recommend what your deck needs and give you our best price for performing that work. That said, we are also a great resource for updating your deck to be code compliant (if it isn’t already) or to give your deck a more visually appealing presence by remodeling it. However, if it is your intent to simply apply “band-aid” or “cheap fix” measures to your deck, DeckTec will not work in that capacity. Below you will see a menu of services that will give you a better sense of cost:

Repair and Refinish: Combine and Save!

As a specialty contractor who offers a full range of services, we always strive to meet our clientele’s needs. Not only do we provide the most thorough repairs to your deck, we also specialize in complete refinishing too. The best way to maximize your investment is to combine this service with your repairs. This will ensure that your deck looks amazing as well as being structurally sound.

Site Assessments & Fees

As we place a lot of emphasis on the importance of having a sound deck structure, we conduct a more extensive site evaluation than the average repair company or handyman. Our evaluation is similar to the diagnostic you would receive when you take your car to the dealership for service. For our evaluation we charge a site assessment fee of $79.95; however, this site assessment fee will be applied to the balance of your work if you choose DeckTec as your contractor. In addition, if you send DeckTec a detailed description of the problem areas along with any applicable pictures (both close up and panned out), we will reduce this fee to $29.95. Simply send your pictures and description to mail@decktec.com – We require payment prior to scheduling the site assessment. If you prefer, you can mail a check or call our office at 303-277-1550 to make payment.

Minimum Charge

As a company that provides a comprehensive approach to deck repair and live customer support 5 days a week, we have invested a lot in providing the best services possible for our clients. However, we know that this level of service isn’t always what people seeking a repair are looking for. Due to the significant investment of resources, we have placed in this division of our company, we have also discovered that there is a minimum charge we must collect for any given service. This ensures that our clients’ needs are being met at the high level that we aspire to maintain, and that we are able to continue to offer these services. The minimum charge which applies to any repair and/or refinishing project is $5,000.00.

When Not to Repair Your Deck

    • When the cost of the repair is over 70% of the cost of new construction
    • If the deck has already had one or more major repairs
    • If the deck is over 15-20 years of age
    • If the current footprint of the deck doesn’t serve your needs
    • If you are planning on staying in the home for 5 years or more
    • If you wish to increase the future marketability of your home (i.e., if you plan to sell in 5 years or more)
    • If you are planning a large-scale landscape or hardscape renovation

These are the best reasons to consider a full replacement of your deck. The most appealing aspect of a new deck is the opportunity new construction provides for design. As a true design build company, we strive to meet the latest building trends while satisfying the inspired desires of our clients. And according to Remodeling Magazine’s Cost vs Value Analysis, new wood decks should provide an 80% avg ROI (return on investment). These are important considerations when planning an outdoor living improvement or repair and at DeckTec we make it our passion to guide you through the process!

Realtor or Home Purchase Assessments

If you are working with a realtor or are a prospective buyer of a property and wish to have DeckTec provide an assessment of a deck, we will be happy to provide this service for $399.95. This fee will be applied toward the balance due (if work is necessary) should you choose DeckTec as your contractor.

The proposals we generate typically take 2 weeks to formalize, particularly during our busy season (mid-April through mid-September). Please allow for this duration of time when requesting our services.

Insurance Claim Assessments

If you are working with your insurance company on an open claim and wish to have DeckTec assess your deck to see if the allocation your insurance company has offered is adequate, we will be happy to provide this service to you for $299.95. This fee will be applied toward the balance due should you choose DeckTec as your contractor.

Scheduling subsequent site visits with a DeckTec representative implies your intent to proceed with our services. Additional site fees will be collected for multiple trips by our representatives, if requested by the prospective client or insurance adjuster.

We encourage our existing and prospective clientele to call us before they reach a final allocation with their insurance company. It has been our experience that insurance providers seldom allocate adequately for storm restoration to a deck structure. For this reason, we prefer to be in direct contact with the insurance company. If you are already working with a general contractor/roofer on your claim, we will require that you allow us to deal directly on your behalf, with the insurance company for the deck restoration portion of your claim. As we do not hire subcontracted labor for the services we provide, we reserve the right to not work as sub-contractors ourselves. We have proven this to be the best way to ensure the most comprehensive deck restoration for our clients.
