Ann & Paul Sims: Windsor’s Winter Wonder Deck

February 20th, 2019|Blog, Customer Feature, Deck Project Highlights|

When Ann and Paul Sims moved from Loveland to Windsor in April, choosing DeckTec to create and build a winterized deck for their new home was a no-brainer. “This is our third project with DeckTec.” Ann, a construction software consultant, said. “They just do fantastic work.” Paul, deputy sheriff of Larimer County, agreed. While they’ve been in Colorado for 20 years, the Sims, originally from Florida, enjoy being outdoors as much as possible. For their first deck at the Loveland house, other contractors simply offered the basic slatted roof (trellis or pergola) that the Sims had asked for. DeckTec, on the other hand, proposed a more functional and appealing open gable (A-frame) roof addition, and the rest is history. “Steve came out and knew we needed something more. He came up with his own design and we loved it. It’s turned out to be perfect for us,” Ann said. “When [...]

Client Interviews: The Skibinski Family

Friends and family say that Mike and Korrie’s DeckTec deck has turned the already-beautiful Skibinski home into a luxury resort. But it’s not just about impressing others. The split-level Mahogany deck, which was completed in July, works for the Skibinski family on so many levels (no pun intended). Architecturally, the deck connects the house to the pool, creating a sense of flow that the Westminster property lacked. Korrie, who works in education, now has a place to relax after work and as she put it, “just listen to the rain.” For the Skibinskis’ 13-year-old daughter, the deck is a peaceful, quiet spot outdoors where she can concentrate better on her homework. And the deck brings people together. The family eats dinner together out there regularly and hosts large parties without it feeling crowded. In fact, the deck offers something for everyone – including the youngest Skibinski. “It’s not like the [...]

Create an Outdoor Room

July 9th, 2013|Blog, Decks & Backyard Features|

You’ve built the perfect deck and equipped it to suit your needs. Perhaps it has comfortable furniture or a fire pit. It’s a great space, but it doesn’t truly become a room until it has a roof over it. Your outdoor space should be a reflection of your lifestyle. Whether it’s creating an outdoor kitchen space, where you can whip up a fantastic dinner under the stars, or building a cozy living room to entertain guests, a roof helps create a space that will be used and enjoyed for years to come. A roof creates the boundaries of your outdoor living space, just like the walls and ceiling do inside your home. A large deck is just a big area without the definition of space a roof cover provides. For some homeowners, a nice deck is all that’s needed to enjoy outdoor living at its finest. This summer, however, has proven to us that this type of homeowner is becoming less prevalent. Brutal sun and heat, combined with sporadic rain storms, are driving people indoors, and air conditioning bills skyward. Everyone is searching for a solution to these issues and we here at DeckTec know that the solution is a roof cover. How can a roof addition lower monthly heating bills? Popular Deck with Roof Cover To understand the answer, we must first break the problem down into some of the more common parts. First, let’s look at how sunlight affects the home itself. When sunlight falls on the side of a home, its radiant energy heats the wall and warms the interior space. This effect is increased if there are any windows are present on these [...]

What’s the Occasion?

July 31st, 2012|Blog, Life On Deck|

“I can’t believe our little girl is getting married,” Donna said to her husband, Tom. “It seems like just yesterday, she was out here in this yard playing tea party with her friends.” Tom sighed. “Yes, and she wants to have the memory of a lifetime in this very spot. I never imagined that we’d be hosting a wedding in our own back yard. We’ll have to call DeckTec to do some remodeling on the deck they built for us 15 years ago. We’ll have to adjust the stairs a little over here, and add some lighting…” he began pointing to different areas of the yard, describing his vision on how to transform the outdoor environment into a romantic wedding venue. “We should have a fireplace installed over here, and a roof cover for shade. Don’t forget we should also have them freshen up the landscaping down on the lawn,” [...]
