How To Repair Hail Damage On Your Wood Deck

July 22nd, 2020|Deck Care & Repair|

When it comes to protecting your deck, one of the biggest enemies here in Colorado is hail. Colorado ranks number two in the nation for hail damage claims. And if you’ve lived here long, you know Colorado sees its fair share of surprise spring and summer hail storms! In fact, our state gets around 300 hail storms every year, the most destructive which happen around June. Colorado has recorded hailstones the size of grapefruits in the past. You don’t want to get hit by one of those, that’s for sure. And you don’t want your deck getting chipped and damaged by hail, either. While real wood is the best decking material, it can still suffer damage in a serious hailstorm. Hail can leave pockmarks in your wood deck, resulting in chipping and fraying on the surface of your deck. Hail can also break through the stain on your deck, breaking [...]

All Aboard the Winter Park Ski Train!

January 31st, 2018|Blog, Colorado Life|

If you’re like most Denverites, you’re probably pretty tired of crawling along I-70 at a snail’s pace in dark and treacherous winter highway conditions – it’s almost enough at times to take the fun out of winter mountain sports altogether. Take heart, dear ski and snowboard traveler, there’s hope for your peace and serenity now that Amtrak’s popular Winter Park Express is up and running on a regular basis for the second year in a row. There’s no time like the present to take advantage of this opportunity to travel in proper style at high altitude. Every Saturday and Sunday morning now through March 25, the Winter Park Express train, with a capacity of more than 500 passengers, departs Union Station at 7 a.m. and arrives at a new, modern platform at the base of Winter Park Resort a mere two hours later. Return trains depart Winter Park for Denver [...]

How Sweet It Is!

March 7th, 2017|Blog, Life On Deck|

I mean, is this weather crazy good or what? My brother sent me a screenshot of a weather news story recently showing Denver’s recent record 80° day in February. They were comparing it to other destinations that most people think of for warmth like Honolulu, where it was 76°, and Miami, where it was 74°.  In some ways, it seems that spring is starting early this year in the Denver area with many days in the 60s and 70s. We could attribute this to global warming; however, the mountains have been getting pounded with incredible amounts of snow, and California’s drought has been entirely reversed. There’s nothing quite like the warm Colorado sun and the fresh crisp air with the majestic mountains in the backdrop. The 58th Annual Colorado Garden & Home Show was the best one yet! This was our 26th consecutive year showcasing our unique custom decks and [...]

If you’ve been in the Denver media area for any number of years, there’s no doubt you’re aware of the annual Colorado Garden and Home Show, even if you haven’t yet attended. For many that have attended in the past, it’s a great exhibit that they look forward to checking out regularly. The major themed garden is always extravagant and different and the many gardens are beautiful and new. The gardens include flowers, plants, and trees in full spring bloom that make you feel like you’re visiting a warm tropical destination for a day. (Talk about spring fever!) A week indoors in this environment is often more enjoyable than the alternatives. This year marks the 58th year of the annual Garden and Home Show. For 26 consecutive years now, we here at DeckTec have participated! For us, what started as an event to showcase our custom projects and attract new business has morphed [...]
