Colorado has, like, 400 days of sunshine a year. Right? We’re unsure this statement is backed by science — or math — but let’s agree that Colorado is sunny. And what do all Coloradoans know? Wear sunscreen and drink plenty of water. We get parched up here at altitude, and that goes for our outdoor living spaces too. Is your wood deck thirsty? If so, it’s time to refresh the deck.

While we love to soak up the rays, retreating to the shade is always a welcome option. Your deck can’t retreat. For much of the year, it will bake under the Colorado sun. Real wood is great at battling the sun, retaining its natural beauty under pressure. Still, even DeckTec’s custom wood decks could use your help beating the heat. As temperatures rise, the heat and UV light rob your wood deck of its vibrancy. Like your car, lawn, or anything you value, wood decks need to be maintained regularly.

Editor’s Note: We know that a year is 365 days. Colorado’s claim to 300 days of sunshine dates back to the 1870s when a newspaper touted Colorado as a great place to live and work to folks in the east. That is still true, but technically, we only get around 250 days of sunny days per year. It just seems like 400 to you and your thirsty deck.
