Little known to clients these days, Eric Veronesi, head of DeckTec’s estimating and design department, is actually the company’s “mission control” man behind the scenes. A mechanical engineer by training and a former painter and home improvement specialist, Veronesi started off in sales at DeckTec in 2010. His current position makes perfect use of his broad-based background and widely-known addiction to perfection. Whether he’s determining the best approach for constructing a complicated deck or pitching in with a final copy edit on the newsletter, one golden thread runs through everything Veronesi lays his hands on – getting it done right.
With his impeccable standards and unwavering commitment to excellence, Veronesi has found a professional home for himself and his talents at DeckTec. He answered an ad for a salesperson, was immediately impressed with the company, and hasn’t looked back since.
“I have pretty high attention to detail with the construction work I’ve done. It was clear that DeckTec, just from looking at pics of the decks the company’s built over the years, had very high-quality standards. I really appreciated the level of detail DeckTec puts into its projects,” Veronesi said.
Eight years later, Veronesi continues to find satisfaction in a job well done. While he enjoyed the people contact of his former sales position, and still goes out on calls now and then, for Veronesi, there’s nothing like seeing a project through to completion.
“I find it very rewarding working on these projects, especially seeing the end results. I think the decks we make are amazing. The construction crews, who are DeckTec employees and not contract laborers, do phenomenal work building these decks and roofs – a lot more than what you might see the average deck builder putting out there. Our guys are true craftsmen and I think they take tremendous pride on the construction side to produce consistently great results,” Veronesi said.
It’s all about teamwork. DeckTec crews couldn’t do their outstanding deck work without Veronesi’s detailed and meticulous designs to guide them.
“Sometimes it’s straightforward, but other times it’s like, wow, we could do this job two or three different ways. Figuring out construction plans, especially for those more intricate designs, can get complex and challenging. You know, how are we going to attach this feature? How do we avoid putting a post where the circuit breaker is and still maintain the artistry and integrity of the design we presented to the homeowner?” Veronesi said.
“Keith (Hartman), our longtime project superintendent, and I make sure we figure these things out in advance. The last thing we want to happen is the construction crew standing around outside someone’s home scratching their heads and wondering ‘How are we going to build this?’ They already have their directions. I want to make sure that the design goes to them ready to build,” he said.
DeckTec used to do deck designs the old-fashioned way, with pencil and paper. Several years ago, with Veronesi’s assistance, DeckTec moved into 3D computer-aided design. Here’s where Veronesi’s prior experience doing 3D modeling as an engineer comes in handy.
“Computer modeling is extremely helpful on some of the larger-scale projects. It helps homeowners really grasp the high-end custom deck they are buying.” Veronesi said.
Veronesi is proud that estimating and design has grown into an actual department instead of just one person running things like it once was. The unit has four employees, two full-time, including Veronesi, and two part-time, but Veronesi keeps a close eye on things.
“I’ll do a final review before plans go out to the sales staff to share with the homeowner, or before a job is about to be permitted. I do the last review on everything. That way I’m confident in the results we’re sending out,” he said.
Veronesi is originally from Stratford, Connecticut . In 2009, shortly before joining DeckTec, he and his wife Melissa, who grew up in Littleton, moved to Colorado. Melissa is a project manager with a book publisher in Boulder. The couple lives in Arvada with their two boys, ages seven and four.
“Besides enjoying my kids, I’ve always got some house projects I’m working on, and we get out camping every so often,” Veronesi said.
Life is good.

My husband Matt and I [...] have moved away from the home where we had the beautiful deck and outdoor living space you created. We will forever remember fondly that beautiful deck, and the hard work you did during a very bad economic time to fix problems around the foundation of our home. Steve, Keith, and all of your workers were fabulous and we sent several of our friends your way with referrals. We are sure that your deck helped us get a wonderful offer on our home.
We just wanted to tell you how much we enjoy the decks DeckTec constructed at our home. Their use is a constant joy. We continually receive compliments on the design and quality of your work. We look forward to many years of use.
DeckTec are absolute pros. They just finished a big deck and roof cover project at my house. The total experience from working with Steve in Design and Sales, Keith in Project Management, and Charlie, Josh, and Hank in Construction was nothing but 6 star service. 100% on time and on budget with craftsmanship and quality. Skip the “Hammer and Nails” contractors and go with DeckTec if you want an “Outdoor Living Space”. Call these people – you will not be disappointed.
I just wanted to let you know how pleased I am with the work Decktec completed refinishing my deck. It hasn’t looked this good since it was new sixteen years ago. Decktec was very professional, polite and willing to work with me to get the exact color of stain I wanted. I would recommend Decktec to anyone who wants a complete job from the great construction work starting the job, to its thorough cleanup. I’m happy my neighbor referred me to Decktec. You are the fourth company I’ve had refinish my deck and will now be the only company I use going forward.
