DeckTec completed this spectacular second-story deck redesign for a stunning home near the Bear Creek Golf Club in Lakewood, Colorado, marking more than 23 years of collaboration with the homeowner.
The deck, crafted from rich Red Balau Mahogany hardwood, provides ample space for dining, relaxing and entertaining and has custom features and design elements throughout that enhance the home’s functionality and visual appeal. Cabot’s Australian Timber Oil in Honey Teak gives the decking a rich golden hue that the Colorado sun accentuates, and a custom railing incorporating a combination of wood, glass and fortress panels surrounds the deck, enhancing safety and aesthetics. Low-voltage lighting in the main rail posts illuminates the deck during evening hours, making it ideal for use day or night.
Clear Cedar posts and top caps add more natural elements to the upper-level deck project, while glass inserts offer a modern touch while allowing for expansive views of the surrounding scenery.
Additional Design Features
The wood deck features two pergolas for added shade and comfort, one of which has solar panels on top to keep the home’s heating and cooling bills low and boost its energy efficiency. Both pergolas feature Behr’s Dark Walnut semi-transparent staining, and low-voltage light fixtures adorn their posts, making the space safe and well-suited for use after dark.
A Red Balau Magohany staircase with a landing is another notable deck feature, with the steps leading down to a paver patio and the lush backyard below. While the deck provides a comfortable, expansive place for the family and guests to spend time, it also serves double-duty as a roof for the patio below, creating even more covered space the homeowners can use as they like.
