Dear DeckTec Friends,
I hope you don’t mind my talking in first person today. Just wanted to tell you about the new deck the team at DeckTec is putting in for us. I am so excited!
Spring is a great time for new beginnings, and so it is no wonder much of the work DeckTec does is ordered in February and March. Their maintenance and construction teams are in full swing by May and are likely to be busy right through Halloween.
My deck started as an annual walk through with Vince. We checked out a few backyard projects, some walkways that need maintenance and the like. As we came around front I mentioned wistfully how nice it would be if my front entry could look as nice as the back, where five years ago, DeckTec built what has become a showpiece for our back yard; a roof-covered deck.
For five years we have enjoyed many happy gatherings on deck, and my husband has barbecued year round out there. Friends and family have been very complimentary as we sit together enjoying the great Colorado weather. Even my enthusiastic German shepherd hasn’t managed to scratch up or otherwise significantly damage the original work by the DeckTec team.
I told Vince about the four-inch round hole in my cement front porch. “That’s where the mud-jacking people drilled last time,” I said. We also noticed the crack in the cement that extended the width of the front porch. “Not too attractive, right?”
Vince nodded. Then he got out a tape measure and told me my porch was out of code. The cement had dropped by an inch or two, making the step down from my front door unsafe. The picket fence around my herb garden was also showing wear, and in general the porch area wasn’t in great shape.
Then Vince gave me a rough idea of what it would cost to redo the front with a new redwood deck.
“We can extend the front so that those gliding chairs of yours will work,” said Vince. “How ’bout I ask Steve to stop by?”
The whole job was not as expensive as I thought it would be, and as Steve pointed out, with the ground shifts in this area, a wood deck will last better than a cement slab. He designed a new porch that will open up my front for sitting out to enjoy the comings and goings of my neighborhood, and allow me a cool place in the morning for after-gardening enjoyment.
By the time you read this, the project will be complete, but today, I’m enjoying the work being done. After Vince and Steve helped with the design and agreement process, DeckTec took care of the permits from the city. They ordered and had delivered all the wood and cement necessary to complete the project and put it on the side of my driveway.
On the Monday they started, a couple of hours of intermittent noise vouched for the old cement deck being chopped apart and hauled away. The guys are at my house by early morning and each day a new layer of work is complete.
I spend my time glancing out the window and thinking of ways I’ll use my new front porch. This last weekend, while on the phone with our daughter, my husband and I mentioned the new, wood deck going in.
“I remember our wooden walk to the front door at our home in Tampa,” said my daughter. “It felt so good on my bare feet!”
“Yes,” added my husband, “and do you remember that wonderful sound of footsteps on the walkway? I hope we’ll get that with our new front porch.”
I had to smile. Some of my favorite tactile memories are of wood decks and walkways, and even now, I am looking forward to experiencing that again.
DeckTec is also adding a planter around the rim of the lower portion of the new deck, where I’ll be able to add colorful annuals. I can see me sitting on the front porch enjoying a novel or a glass of lemonade. And in the late afternoon, when the sun is too intense to be out front, I’ll slip out the back door and enjoy the deck there.
I hope this is the summer you decide to go for a new deck. The investment is well worthwhile, as I know you’ll enjoy your home that much more.
What about you? Have you ever considered putting in a front deck to replace that old cement stoop? Is your backyard the source of relaxation and joy it ought to be?

My husband Matt and I [...] have moved away from the home where we had the beautiful deck and outdoor living space you created. We will forever remember fondly that beautiful deck, and the hard work you did during a very bad economic time to fix problems around the foundation of our home. Steve, Keith, and all of your workers were fabulous and we sent several of our friends your way with referrals. We are sure that your deck helped us get a wonderful offer on our home.
We just wanted to tell you how much we enjoy the decks DeckTec constructed at our home. Their use is a constant joy. We continually receive compliments on the design and quality of your work. We look forward to many years of use.
DeckTec are absolute pros. They just finished a big deck and roof cover project at my house. The total experience from working with Steve in Design and Sales, Keith in Project Management, and Charlie, Josh, and Hank in Construction was nothing but 6 star service. 100% on time and on budget with craftsmanship and quality. Skip the “Hammer and Nails” contractors and go with DeckTec if you want an “Outdoor Living Space”. Call these people – you will not be disappointed.
I just wanted to let you know how pleased I am with the work Decktec completed refinishing my deck. It hasn’t looked this good since it was new sixteen years ago. Decktec was very professional, polite and willing to work with me to get the exact color of stain I wanted. I would recommend Decktec to anyone who wants a complete job from the great construction work starting the job, to its thorough cleanup. I’m happy my neighbor referred me to Decktec. You are the fourth company I’ve had refinish my deck and will now be the only company I use going forward.
