At DeckTec, our favorite time of the year isn’t just between Memorial Day and Labor Day, but any time that it’s mild enough to live it up on your beautiful wood deck.

One event that makes the wait for spring a lot easier is the Colorado Garden & Home Show. This is the season’s premier outdoor living event, where you can find inspiration and motivation for your next big outdoor project.

For DeckTec, this will be our 30th consecutive year at the Colorado Garden & Home Show. It’s a chance to meet people and share our experience and expertise with people regarding the beauty and benefits of custom decks and outdoor living rooms.

Plus, we love the opportunity to take in everything the show has to offer for ourselves.

From the latest in kitchen remodels and energy-efficient windows to roofing options, furniture, and of course, outdoor living, the Colorado Garden & Home Show has everything for the homeowner looking to take their home to the next level.

What is the Colorado Garden & Home Show?

The Colorado Garden & Home Show is the oldest and most well-known garden and home show in the Rocky Mountains. Over 50,000 people gather for nine full days of home improvement, landscaping, and gardening demonstrations, classes, competitions, and ideas to take home.

That’s a lot of people, but don’t worry — there are plenty of parking options. Learn about where to park at the Colorado Garden & Home Show here »

The show takes place at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado and runs from February 22nd to March 1st.

The show opens between 10:00am and 12:00pm (noon), and closes down between 6:00pm and 8:00pm each night, although hours change slightly day to day. Find exact Colorado Garden & Home Show hours here »

The show includes 650 exhibitors (including us!) who are there to connect with local homeowners and demonstrate their newest products. There’s even a special Hot Products Zone hosted by 9News, where they’ll be showing off some of this year’s most innovative garden and home products.

If there’s a Colorado brand or product related to home improvement or outdoor living, you’re likely to find it at the Colorado Garden & Home Show.

What to Look for at the Colorado Garden & Home Show

One of the things that really makes us stop and smell the roses (literally) at the Colorado Garden & Home Show are the professionally landscaped gardens.

Eleven separate gardens full of fragrant flowers and plants cover a full acre of the convention center.

This year’s crown jewel will be a 5,500 square foot garden celebrating Special Olympics Colorado, which occurs at the same time as the show. The garden design will incorporate interactive sports displays.

These flourishing gardens in the middle of winter get us dreaming about summer and all the outdoor living projects we want to bring to life.

But at the Garden & Home Show, you don’t just have to dream. You can learn how to make your dreams reality with over 40 educational classes on gardening, outdoor living, and home improvement.

This year, the seminars cover everything from:

  • Kitchen design
  • Drought tolerant plants
  • How to attracting hummingbirds to your house
  • Designing your home for an improved health and mood
  • And more!

And the best part about those classes is that they’re 100% free.

After getting a dose of “do-it-yourself” education, take a stroll through the Design Specialty Flower Show. Dozens of artistic floral displays will compete for top prize in this year’s contest.

Their inspiration is the theme “Hat’s Off to Gardening”, an ode to the many joys and benefits of gardening.

If the flower displays leave you wanting to brighten up your home, you’ll want to make your way over to the show’s flower sale (on Wednesday, February 26th at noon), where you can buy gorgeous perennials for just $2 per pot.

Kids Activities at the Colorado Garden & Home Show

The Colorado Garden & Home Show is a family affair, with plenty for adults and kids alike. Your children and grandchildren will love checking out the outdoor playsets on display.

And since every kid is born with a sweet tooth, you’ll have no problem convincing them to peruse the Sweet Times in the Rockies Sugar Art Show, on display February 29th and March 1st.

Confectionary delights undergo epic transformations into stunning art pieces that will leave you and your kids’ eyes amazed and mouths watering. There’s even a youth category, so your children can enter to compete, too!

The show also offers cake and sugar art classes for anyone who wants to try their hand at this unique but delicious art form. Register here »

If that’s not enough to keep the young ones occupied, you can always head over to the Kid’s Zone, featuring balloon animal art, crafts, a playset, and more.

One other way the Garden & Home Show benefits kids is through its support of local nonprofits. A portion of every ticket sold goes to scholarships and community gardens that make gardening accessible to local youth.
