Deck or Paver Patio? You Can Decide – But You Don’t Have to!

September 26th, 2022|Decks & Backyard Features|

“What’s better, a deck or a paver patio?” It’s a question we get from many prospective clients. You’d be hard-pressed not to favor a deck, especially when folks see how cedar and redwood decks lend rich beauty, design, and value to an underutilized, boring backyard. Plus, once we take the time to describe how DeckTec expertly blends the natural wood beauty of our decks with your home and landscaping, you’ll see that you can never go wrong with a deck in Colorado. However, some are surprised to learn that we have an exceptional team of specialists dedicated to offering DeckTec clients the distinctive beauty of a paver patio. In fact, DeckTec has done more deck-paver combinations than any other company in Colorado. Paver patios are fantastic for ground-level outdoor living areas. They can offer all of the features that a DeckTec deck could – with fewer complexities associated with permits [...]

The Joys of Birding “On Deck”

May 23rd, 2018|Blog, Decks & Backyard Features, Life On Deck, Outdoor Living|

Welcome to the first in our series of articles on backyard “on deck” birding! We were fortunate to speak with metro area birding expert Scott Menough, owner with his wife, Sandy, of Wild Birds Unlimited in Lakewood since 1989. Scott is the host of BirdTalk radio, which airs Saturdays from noon to 1 p.m. on 710 KNUS and 1690 KDMT, and also hosts a podcast at BirdTalkGuys.com. Perhaps you’ve never thought about attracting more birds to your yard? Well, according to Scott, conditions here are excellent for doing exactly that. “In Colorado we’re very lucky to have a variety of habitat that is attractive to wild birds, some year-round, and some seasonally,” he said. According to Menough, feathered friends that you can commonly see year-round from your deck include the so-called “house birds” – house sparrows, house finches and house wrens as well as nuthatches, black-capped chickadees, pigeons, woodpeckers, American [...]

October 25th, 2017|Decks & Backyard Features, Life On Deck, Outdoor Living|

When it comes to “fire on deck” and staying warm, there’s something for every need – from a fire pit to fireplaces and heaters. DeckTec can make it happen. “There’s been a big evolution in all of this since the first outdoor fire options came on board in the late 90s and early 2000s,” Steve Sparhawk, owner of DeckTec said. (Download: The Ultimate Guide to Starting Your Custom Outdoor Deck Project) “Fire pits warm the lower body, whereas fire tables, when you sit around them, warm the upper body,” Dave Hall, owner of Colorado Comfort Products, said. “A lot of people prefer a fire pit because of that lower body warmth.” Fire pits are great because they can also double as a coffee table. Hall said that he sells five times more fire pits than tables. “The advantage of fire tables is that they provide warmth around an eating surface,” [...]
