I believe most people’s perception of a deck is a somewhat generic square or rectangular platform off the back of a house – at least when I started DeckTec 35 years ago, that was the case. Having previously been employed in landscaping, sunrooms, and custom cedar homes, all of which featured elements of decks and outdoor living spaces, I started to pick up on an increasing element of design in trade publications and in the field. Having grown up in a home where family and holiday gatherings were hosted on a nice, covered patio, the importance of outdoor living and design became obvious to me.

I discovered a related niche in the still undeveloped outdoor living design and build business. Decks with levels, staircases with landings, roof additions, and integrating spas became an art and a passion for the DeckTec designer and talented specialty builder we employ. However, the one design feature that excited me and differentiated our project was the curve!

When I consult with clients, I begin by evaluating their outdoor space and listening to their priorities, desires, and everyday way of life. This intake process is something I continue to use today, fueling my inspiration to craft innovative designs that blend privacy, protection from the elements, functionality, and—of course—style.

Our outdoor living spaces focus on both appeal and functionality. We incorporate privacy features so you don’t have to look at the back of greasy BBQ grills or your neighbors. Our designs include beautiful lighting schemas for nighttime. We’re ahead of the curve—our designs are more than just decks. Over the years, the size and scope of DeckTec’s projects have grown, but our goal has remained the same: finding new approaches to outdoor living that turn the notion of the boring, “same old” backyard deck on its head.
