Why add a roof to the deck or patio?

Popular Deck with Roof Cover Roof covers, while generally a hefty investment, are worth their price tag. Roofs will extend the homeowners' ability to enjoy outdoor living by as much as three months a year in Colorado. This is because the roof you add will provide shade and temperature relief in the summer, and will allow you to grill long into the winter months. Roofs will also provide protection from gentle spring rains, so you can still be outside, even with a light shower happening. Thinking about adding a roof? Protect your deck for winter

IPE Deck in Littleton, CO It's not too late. Servicing your deck to clean and protect the wood against winter weather is the most important treatment you can do to extend the life of your deck. Heavy rains and brutal sun have been particularly rough on decks this year. However, it is winter weather that is the biggest threat to the life of your deck. Winter moisture sitting on the deck penetrates older raw wood and freezes causing small and normal cracks to expand. Skipping annual maintenance applications leads to more costly refinishing treatments to preserve the integrity of the wood. We want to help you protect this important asset to your home and lifestyle. Schedule your deck maintenance by December 5th and receive a 5% discount on this year's service. Is your deck looking dry and thirsty? Call today to reserve your space in our winter schedule! 303-277-1550.

DeckTec wins eLocal Blog-Off Award

In October, President Steve Sparhawk was selected as one of the panel experts for eLocal.com's Blog-Off Series. eLocal.com is a national directory of home improvement specialists. As one of the experts, Steve is asked to weigh in on a variety of topics related to the home improvement industry. This week's topic posed the question, "What is the best tool in your toolbox?" While there were a variety of specific responses - a tape measure, a smart phone, cinnamon scented pencils - Steve's advice stressing the importance of design was listed as most insightful: “When making home improvements, the best tool a consumer can invest in is a professional design. Design lays the foundation for any home improvement project. Having a well-thought-out plan is the difference between a space that is never used and one that is beautiful, functional and adds value to the home. Whether you choose to build the project yourself or hire a contractor, developing the plans for any project is a necessary step in the process. It is easy to get overwhelmed when[...]

What Happens If I Don’t Stain My Deck?

Q: What happens if I don't stain my deck? What types of visible signs and long-lasting effects are seen when left untreated? A: We highly recommend putting your deck on an annual maintenance program. As you would do with your lawn or car, regular maintenance will keep your deck looking like new and uncover potential hazards before they become a problem. (More: DeckTec's Refinishing Services) However, choosing not to stain or paint the deck is simply a preference of the homeowner. The effects that can occur due to a lack of treatment are aesthetic in nature. After 6 months, the wood will start to lose its color and will begin to fade. Ultimately it will fade to grey or silver. This is not a problem in and of itself, and some people prefer this look for their decks. You will see what is called checking of the wood. This is where the wood begins to form small surface cracks or takes on a slightly scaly appearance. This checking occurs when the wood becomes dried out and[...]

We’ve moved!

After being under the same roof for the past 16 years, we've made a big change to the way we run our operation. We've split our office into two locations - our office staff in one, the construction crews in another. Our home office has moved one block north to 16000 W. 5th Avenue in Golden. From here, we manage all customer service needs including proposals, scheduling, sales and accounting. We have enjoyed being a part of the Golden community for the past 22 years and look forward to continuing to build relationships with the wonderful neighbors we've had during that time. Our phone number has remained the same - 303-277-1550. Our shop is now located at 12150 W. 44th Avenue in Wheatridge. This location is more centralized for our construction and service crews to depart from, allowing them to get to job sites more quickly and efficiently. We plan to host an open house at each location in the coming weeks and hope you'll stop by to see us!
